Here is another picture from Patrick Voigt’s book about German post-war modernism: this image gives a view of the inside of St.Agnes church in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
Bowl with Kufic Inscription, 10th century, Samanid Period. Earthenware. Greater Khurasan or Northeastern Iran. Via Brooklyn Museum.
With its elegant Arabic inscription in kufic script, this bowl exemplifies the “black-and-white” wares unearthed at the sites of Nishapur/Samarqand in the 1930s/40s. The inscriptions on these types are the first examples of Arabic proverbs to appear in the Islamic world, and thus are central to Arabic literary history. This one reads, “Peace is that which is silent and the inner [thoughts] of the man with faults will only be revealed through his speech.”
